Inter-Domain Traffic Engineering on a Bandwidth Broker Supported Diffserv Internet

چکیده
In this paper, we are proposing an Inter-domain traffic engineering architecture over a Bandwidth Broker (BB) supported Diffserv internet. The main components of our architecture are a novel inter-domain QoS routing architecture, the addition of an explicit path setup capability to the Simple Inter-domain Bandwidth Broker Signaling (SIBBS) protocol, and inter-domain label switched path (LSP) setup. The inter-domain QoS routing protocol is used to find an inter-domain path that satisfies the requested QoS parameters for a certain connection. Bandwidth Brokers are used to set up the intra-domain and inter-domain paths between the source and the destination domains. The SIBBS protocol is used to communicate the explicit path information and the QoS information between bandwidth brokers, which are responsible for the domains that are on the QoS path found by the QoS routing protocol. Inter-domain path setup is achieved by using interdomain label switched paths. Path setup is also used to verify that the path found by the inter-domain QoS routing protocol indeed satisfies the requested QoS parameters. We restricted our investigation to inter-domain traffic engineering; we do not explore intra-domain issues. Simulation of our inter-domain traffic engineering architecture shows that our approach improves throughput by shifting QoS traffic away from congested links. Our traffic engineering architecture can also be used to balance the load on outgoing links of a domain. If a robust pricing scheme is applied to the Internet, our architecture can also provide cost balancing.

Inter-domain LSP setup using bandwidth management points
Bandwidth Management Points (BMP) are a necessity to manage the intra and inter-domain resources in the Internet. In this paper we propose a way to setup inter-domain Label Switched Path (LSP) with the help of a BMP in a MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS) over Diffserv network. We use extended Simple Inter-domain Bandwidth Broker Signalling Protocol (SIBBS) to distribute the labels inter-doma...

The Differentiated services architecture (diffserv) proposed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) [1] provides service differentiation in the Internet in an efficient and scalable manner. The central idea of diffserv is that the Type Of Service field (TOS) in the IPv4 header can be used to prioritize traffic in an aggregated manner. In this paper we work on the resource management impl...
متن کاملArchitectures and performance evaluation of bandwidth brokers
DiffServ is the basis of contemporary QoS-enabled networks. Setting up DiffServ QoS requires extensive engineering effort in dimensioning and provisioning, especially for adjacent networks under different administrations linked in a “federated” hierarchy. The bandwidth broker is an entity that is responsible for the management of the resources and the QoS service operation in an automated way. ...
متن کاملImplementation of a Simple Bandwidth Broker for DiffServ Networks
To date, QoS solutions that have been developed are confined to enterprise networks due to the scalability problems in inter-domain QoS provisioning. Therefore implementing a service that guarantees end-to-end QoS across the Internet has yet to be fully realised. It is believed that such a service will need to evolve regionally, then nationally and, finally, on a global scale in the same way th...
متن کاملEvaluation of Bandwidth Broker Signaling
The Differentiated Service (DiffServ) architecture for the Internet implements a scalable mechanism for quality-of-service (QoS) provisioning. Bandwidth brokers represent the instances of the architecture, that automate the provisioning of a DiffServ service between network domains. Although several bandwidth broker implementations (e.g. [Bri98]) have been proposed, the alternatives and trade-o...
